Stourbridge bluesman Ian Parker has a new album packed with gems from the classic tunes catalogue.
Spoonful of Gold is Parker’s tribute to one of his musical heroes, Willie Dixon.
The album was recorded as live performances and at the legendary Rockfield studios in Wales and features tracks including Spoonful, Evil and I Just Wanna Make Love To You.
The guitarist, who is established as a master of the British blues scene, takes the tunes to new places by stamping his own style on the tracks, rather than merely imitating other versions.
The approach not only demonstrates the depth of Parker’s talent but also the skill of his band which includes long-time collaborator Morg Morgan on keys.
Add in the masterful production skills of Tim Lewis, and the end product is an album which demands plenty of plays and is difficult to leave alone.
Here is Ian talking about what inspired him to record the album.
